The Capital City Czech Choraliers, an ethnic singing group based in Lincoln, Nebraska, was first organized in April 1977. The singers have been under the direction of Ray Svoboda for the last thirteen years. The Choraliers number 25 when in full force and are accompanied by a button accordian (Ray Svoboda), a piano accordian (Lori Vasa), bass horn (Elmer Nemec), and drums (Don Daniel). This group of dedicated singers strives to preserve a bit of Czech heritage and culture by their public performances. They have traveled to Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wisconsin, as well as all over Nebraska, to perform at ethnic festivals, harvest festivals, and civic events. They have performed Polka Masses. The group also performs in nursing and retirement homes, schools, senior centers, and service clubs throughout Lincoln and surrounding communities. The Choraliers do not charge for their performances and all expenses for travel are paid by the members or through donations. They are Nebraska's most traveled ethnic singing group.
